3 Days in Dubai: Downtown, Marina and Old Dubai
Three days let you cover Dubai's essential trio of districts without rushing. Day one takes in Downtown's icons, from the towering Burj Khalifa to the dancing fountain. Day two heads coastward through Dubai Marina, the Palm and JBR, a world of yachts, beaches and landmark resorts. Day three slows down in Old Dubai, crossing the Creek by abra to explore heritage lanes and the glittering gold and spice souks before a forward looking finish. Grouping sights by zone keeps travel simple by metro and taxi, and the mix of old and new gives a rounded first impression. Carry water, plan indoor stops for the midday heat, and book major attractions ahead to keep each day moving smoothly from morning to evening.
Day 01
Downtown Dubai
Downtown Dubai's landmarks, from Burj Khalifa and the aquarium to Dubai Opera and the fountain.
Morning
Burj Khalifa
Open your Dubai trip at the top of Burj Khalifa, riding one of the world's fastest lifts to the observation decks. From more than four hundred metres up the city, sea and desert unfold, and a morning visit beats both crowds and haze.
Late Morning
The Dubai Mall
Descend into The Dubai Mall, a vast retail and entertainment complex you could not exhaust in a day. Note the aquarium wall and dancing waterfall as you go, then choose a few zones to explore rather than trying to see everything.
Lunch
Souk Al Bahar
Break for lunch at Souk Al Bahar across the bridge, its shaded terraces overlooking the fountain lake and tower. The stone lanes and lanterns give an old world mood, and outdoor tables are prime seats for later fountain shows.
Afternoon
Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo
Spend the hot afternoon inside at the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. Walk the glass tunnel beneath gliding sharks and rays, then head upstairs to meet penguins, otters and crocodiles across themed zones, an easy indoor highlight for all ages.
Late Afternoon
Dubai Opera
As the day cools, admire Dubai Opera, the dhow shaped venue anchoring the boulevard. Even outside a performance the building and its surrounding plaza are worth a stroll, and checking the programme may reward you with an evening show.
Evening
The Dubai Fountain
Close with the Dubai Fountain on the lake between the mall and tower. Water jets soar and sway to music and light after dark, with shows every half hour or so into the night, best enjoyed from the waterfront promenade.
Day 02
Marina, the Palm and JBR
A coastal day through Dubai Marina, Bluewaters, JBR and the Palm.
Morning
Dubai Marina Walk
Start along the Dubai Marina Walk, a waterfront promenade threading between glass towers and moored yachts. Cafes line the route, joggers pass at dawn, and a morning stroll here sets a relaxed, upscale tone for a day by the water.
Late Morning
Ain Dubai
Cross to Bluewaters Island for Ain Dubai, one of the world's tallest observation wheels. Whether you ride a cabin or simply admire it from the boardwalk, the structure frames sweeping views back toward the marina skyline and open Gulf.
Lunch
JBR The Walk
Head to JBR and The Walk, a lively beachfront strip of restaurants, shops and street performers. Grab lunch with a sea view, then dip your toes in the sand, as the open beach and outdoor dining define this district.
Afternoon
Atlantis The Palm
Ride out along the Palm Jumeirah to Atlantis The Palm, the pink landmark resort at the crescent's tip. Its public areas, aquarium and waterpark draw day visitors, and the approach along the palm shaped island is a sight in itself.
Late Afternoon
The Pointe
Cross to The Pointe, a waterfront dining destination facing Atlantis. Promenade restaurants and cafes look across to the resort, making it a scenic place to relax in the late afternoon before the evening lights switch on around the bay.
Evening
Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk
End on the Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk, a seafront path along the island's fronds. As the sun drops, the skyline glows behind you and the sea breeze cools the air, a fitting finish to a day exploring Dubai's engineered coastline.
Day 03
Old Dubai and the Souks
Old Dubai heritage and souks, finishing at the Museum of the Future.
Morning
Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood
Devote the morning to Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, where restored wind tower houses and shaded lanes preserve pre oil Dubai. Duck into art galleries and heritage cafes, and consider the cultural centre for insight into Emirati customs and daily life.
Late Morning
Abra ride across Dubai Creek
Board an abra at the creek, the humble wooden ferry crossing between Bur Dubai and Deira. It is one of the city's cheapest and most authentic rides, gliding past laden cargo dhows and giving a working glimpse of old trade.
Lunch
Al Seef
Pause for lunch at Al Seef, a creekfront district weaving traditional facades with a modern promenade. Waterside tables serve regional and global dishes, and the setting bridges heritage and new build Dubai as boats drift along the channel.
Afternoon
Gold Souk
Enter the Deira Gold Souk, whose windows blaze with gold in every design imaginable. Wander the covered lanes for the spectacle, watch traders at work, and remember prices follow the day's metal rate plus a charge for craftsmanship.
Late Afternoon
Spice Souk
Nearby, the Spice Souk fills narrow alleys with the scent of saffron, cardamom, dried roses and incense. Merchants invite you to sample and haggle, and small, well priced bags of spice or tea make easy, aromatic souvenirs.
Evening
Museum of the Future
Finish at the Museum of the Future back on Sheikh Zayed Road, its glowing calligraphy shell unmistakable. Inside, immersive exhibits imagine space travel, ecosystems and wellbeing, a forward looking close that mirrors the ancient souks you explored earlier.
