Weekend (2 Days) · in Sydney
A Sydney Weekend: 2 Day Itinerary
A weekend gives you time for both Sydneys: the harbour and the coast. Day one loops the icons around Circular Quay, from the Opera House and Botanic Garden to The Rocks, the Harbour Bridge and the new dining precinct at Barangaroo. Day two heads east to the beaches, walking the famous clifftop path from Bondi past Bronte to Coogee before finishing among the boutiques and bars of Paddington and Surry Hills. Trains and buses link the two areas quickly, so you swap ferries for surf without wasting the morning. It is a balanced two days that shows why locals treasure their harbour and their sand in equal measure, and it still leaves room to linger.
Day 01
Day 1: Harbour and City
The classic Circular Quay loop plus the Harbour Bridge and Barangaroo waterfront.
Morning
Sydney Opera House
Begin at the harbour's most famous building, walking the forecourt and lower steps as morning light hits the sails. Take in the panorama across the water before the day fills, then follow the promenade toward the gardens.
Late Morning
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Wander the waterfront lawns and plant collections that wrap the eastern side of the harbour. Paths lead to Mrs Macquarie's Chair for a classic view lining up the Opera House and Harbour Bridge together.
Lunch
Circular Quay
Return to the quay for a relaxed harbourside lunch. Ferries pull in and out beside you, buskers play along the promenade, and the whole waterfront hums as the city's transport hub comes to life at midday.
Afternoon
The Rocks
Explore the colony's original streets, ducking into laneways, galleries and historic pubs. Learn the area's convict era history at the small museums, then browse local makers if the weekend markets are trading under the sandstone.
Late Afternoon
Sydney Harbour Bridge
Walk the pedestrian path across the bridge deck for changing views of the harbour below. Even without the summit climb, crossing the span on foot is a highlight, with lookouts back to the Opera House and Circular Quay.
Evening
Barangaroo
Finish at the redeveloped western waterfront, where restaurants and bars line the promenade at Barangaroo. Watch the sun drop behind the headland, then choose a harbourside table for dinner as the city lights reflect on the water.
Day 02
Day 2: Beaches and East
Sydney's most famous coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee, finishing in the eastern suburbs.
Morning
Bondi Beach
Catch the train and bus to Sydney's best known beach. Walk the golden crescent, watch surfers and swimmers in the sheltered ends, and feel the buzz of a beach that draws locals and visitors year round.
Late Morning
Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk
Set off south on the clifftop path, one of Sydney's great walks. Sandstone headlands, ocean pools and hidden coves unfold as you go, with the sea crashing below and whales sometimes passing offshore in season.
Lunch
Bronte Beach
Pause at this smaller, family friendly beach for lunch at a cafe above the sand. The grassy park and famous ocean baths make it a favourite local hangout, and a good midpoint rest on the coastal walk.
Afternoon
Coogee Beach
Finish the coastal walk at wide, welcoming Coogee. Cool off in the surf or the sheltered pools at each end, then relax on the grassy hillside that looks out over the bay and passing swimmers.
Late Afternoon
Paddington
Head inland to leafy Paddington, known for its Victorian terraces, galleries and boutiques along Oxford Street. Browse independent shops and design stores, or explore the tree lined backstreets that show off Sydney's handsome inner east.
Evening
Surry Hills
End the weekend in Sydney's hippest dining neighbourhood. Surry Hills packs small bars, cafes and acclaimed restaurants into a walkable grid of terraces, perfect for a long dinner to cap two full days.
